There may be a critique of the developmental lens, albeit it they are both very powerful. Thinking politically: challenging truths, questioning common sense, interrogating your/others belief, learning how to analyze/critique (rather than just describe) developmental model is one of the most powerful and commonly used lens in the field of children and youth. What is the socio-cultural lens: critical, political thinking about truth, power, knowledge, focus on how privilege/oppression are maintained, focus on what is society and culture.
