Neo-liberalism pejorative term for a range of global policies aimed at economic liberalization (free trade, reduced taxation and smaller government, emphasis on individual enterprise) In the neo-liberal explanation, inequality is due to non-modern social practices (corruption, political tyranny, distorted ethnic demands and conflict) The privatization of poverty- blaming the poor for their own condition (female single parents) The universal child is vulnerable, innocent and contains future potential. This is the neo-liberal child, modelled on an ideal that many children cannot obtain. Children cannot be blamed for their conditions. Ex: publicly funded education in nepal ends in grade 8. Many children are therefore forced out of school and have the potential to do great things.
