Access and knowledge of entire population, then taking random sample from it. Simple random sample: who you pick is driven by some process outside the sample. Systematic random simple: only first person is chosen randomly, ppl after are chosen by set sequence. Stratified random: layers, want to know about different layers, take equal sample from different layers, choosing equal sample from each subgroup (e. g. male, female, black, white, problem = small strata get oversampled. Proportionate stratified (random: solution to stratified problem, properly weighting, plan study so smallest group has enough participants, magic number for studies is 30.
