If you don"t have experimental research you cannot make strong conclusions. You know nothing about this thing, unless something happens to the other thing. Dependent variable will be the thing the article is trying to explain. Frequency, duration, intensity, latency (time until someone does something) Randomly assigned tends to lead to independent variables.
