Week 4: Families and children’s participation in broader contexts
Ashley Smith (1988-2007)
- Someone who had a bit of nuisance trouble and when she was 15 she was on
probation for throwing crab apples at a post office worker
- She was sent to a youth center for a month however she kept doing things
that would get her in trouble
- Whenever she got in trouble there would be an extension of their time which
ended her up in there for 2 years
o She was segregated 24 times
- She asked if she could be transferred to an adult intuition
- Whenever she got in trouble shed get in trouble, start yelling etc.
o How she managed her anger
o Eventually she took her life
- During all this time, she kept writing letter of those who were taking care of
her
o Ex. Wanting a larger size of underwear
