Last class: bronze age cultures of minoans and mycenaean in greece known from homer and esp. archaeology. By 1350 mycenae and other sites fortifies = worries of safety = internal or external: 1200 bc wide scale attacks and destruction. =mass movements of people many are engaged in marauding and destruction. Widespread chaos and collapse of all bronze age empires (except egypt) = result: back to more subsistence economies and loss of population (returns to looking after themselves simple living farming, no palaces, etc. ) Homer: c. 750 bc (c. = circa latin for about) Loss of palaces = much less trade = loss of luxury goods and use of bronze much reduced (bronze reduction results in recycling or going back to stone and wood) Loss of kings/kingdoms = now only small communities with local chieftains. Most people are farmers = few artifacts to find.
