Design: use of columns adopted from egypt but not inside rather around outside. Temples are stone by 6th c. = 500"s b. c. E. g. the massive temple of artemis, ephesus = 127 columns! Artemis of ephesus eastern mother goddess syncretized with greek artemis. Regional differences: east = islands and asia minor style called ionic with volute capitals. Located on a plain with the hill of kronos forming backdrop; festival to zeus = chief god. Games begin in dark ages 776 b. c. Games held every 4 years for zeus mainstay of this cult; amnesty to travel to the games for all.
