Celebrating integrating, and including all the different ethnic cultures that are part of one whole national culture. Two histories of the west: the history of positive, democratic, liberal ideals, the shadow history, the other (hidden) side of democratic, enlightened ideals , (slavery, racial extermination, religious persecution, colonial exploitation) A zone where new cultural meanings can be produced, beyond binary oppositions (colonizer, and colonized, homeland and foreign land, canadian and immigrant ) All identities and cultures are hybrids, mixes of old and new.
