Types of software: application software: have a use (word processor, games, etc. , system software: facilitates application software (libraries, drivers, etc. ) Categories of application software: graphics editing, music and audio, video, some that some media library can also manage videos, office productivity software, number crunching and analysis, internet/networking/communication, gaming. Databases: databases hold information in table, the database software should manage things like controlling access; connects/communication; adding, removing and modifying records/tables; and querying data. Extensions and plugins: extensions and plugins (occasionally called add-ons) are both special limited forms of software that serve to augment another applications. Software platforms and frameworks: most applications don"t run directly on hardware, instead applications often, run on top of other programs, using a common set of related software components. Cloud computing and web applications: cloud - storing something on someone else"s devices, most software you run executes on your own devices.
