Ways of identifying sentences: transactive sentence- action is seen as having an origin (an agent) and a receiver (a patient). In the us a man rapes a woman every six minutes: non-transactive sentence- the action is not seen as having a direct origin to the social actor. In the us rape occurs every six minutes. In the us a woman is raped every six minutes. They - active sentences: subject we appears before the verb, how does the active voice function, where coffee is actually coming from, hard work, what is significant about this, active voice in free trade. Ideologically gives idea that everyone is getting what they are owed when you buy product: talking about family company and mountains and their farm. Example: market forces : maintaining unequal power relations: effort of creating new terms is an act of control. What is the difference between the two sentences? responsibility for certain actions.
