The relaionship between life and art life and art are separate. The words life and art are symbolized in the lady of shalot. Life and art are separate and irreconcilable in the world of camelot, the beginning of the poem opens up with the idea of separaion--the landscape is described as on either side the river lie . The lady is who represents art is separated from the world of camelot. She sings but no one can hear directly, the poem emphasizes the distance between the lady and the rest of camelot. In the process of weaving, she looks at the mirror image of the world. The meaning of mirror: remove from reality/ her shield/ Her song is received only as echo and conversely she sees the world only as shadows both camelot and shalot are neutrally alienated from each other. I am half sick of shadows (71) suggests that life and art cannot be reconciled.
