ESSAY: This is how the house is represented in one story and this is how it is
represented in the other story. Looking critically, what does attention to differences
portray?
Midsummer night’s dream: Shakespeare immediately states that we don’t have to
worry about the frustration, because it is a love story and everything will work out.
Green space: Shakespeare literalizes the idea that you can look with somebody
else’s eyes. When the lovers are forced to see in another way, chaos occurs,
violence is brought out. The enforcing of vision will never result in passion.
Exposition: Theseus and Hippolyta to be wed.
Rising Action: Various lovers entanglements (Hermia and Lysander cant wed,
Demetrius loves Hermia, Helena love Demetrius, Oberon and Titania are fighting)
Mechanicals put on a play, Oberon and puck’s antics with the love potion
Climax: Oberon reserves the chaos he has created, and he and puck use another
herb to fix error. Term used: deus ex machine (latin for- “a god from machine”) This
is a term used by authors to resolve plot conflicts.
Falling action: everyone except Demetrius wakes from their dream and lovers’
entanglements are solved
Denouement: Act V- the mechanicals’ play, the fairies’ song and dance, Pucks’
analogy
When they perform the play; no surprise they are terrible. Shakespeare is mostly
interested in the audience, which is talking.
“The best in this kind are but shadows; and the worst are no worse, if imagination
amends them.” Even the best actors, doing the best plays is just acting- it’s not real.
It doesn’t matter how could the play is.
