Religion was a prominent national and international concern. We shouldn"t be surprised to find shakespeare in his plays engaging in religious and theological issues. We can approach these plays as religious allegories. The religious meanings of shakespeare"s plays, were the main meanings according to critics: allegory other speaking or speaking otherwise. It says one thing and means something else. Parables also very broad forms of allegory or speaking otherwise.
