Constitution of the refractory clergy (those who had refused to take the oath) Parishes divided between those who supported the refractory clergies and those who didn"t. Less than half of the priest swore the oath. Those who refuse the oath, lost the rights as citizens and their pension as clergy, classified as traitors, many imprisoned if practice. Church was an important place of socialization, especially for women. Opposition of nobles emigres: opposition from the left. Developing of the party system: monarchist and radicals. Those who supported a constitutional monarchy and those who supported a republic: the bretton club.
