Document Summary
Many refer to this as bouncing back from dif cult challenges: resilience is the ability to overcome adversity and challenge. Many dynamic and non-linear factors include individual, relationship, community and physical environment factors that can ultimately in uence resilience. A more comprehensive de nition of resilience is an individual"s capacity to overcome adversity and negative health and social resources; it is the capability of the individual"s family, community and culture to provide these resources in meaningful ways. Resilience can be built: we are all capable of building and fostering our resilience through our thoughts, behaviours and actions (this does not mean you don"t experience negative emotions, resilience is ordinary, not extraordinary. It is a lifelong process: we can also help others increase their resilience. Our community and resilience: resilience research also looks at ways that our families, friends, communities, schools, workplaces, health organizations, government policies etc can support and build resiliency.
