Several infectious agents can cause the same diseas. We don"t need only to have a virus in circulation for someone to be at risk, we need other things such as behaviours that can cause an interaction with the virus. Time, place, person: place: go to a place and there is an agent, you will be at risk. With a disease trasmitted by consumption of pork, some groups will have a protective effect because of religious or cultural practice of banning pork. Multi-causal theory: many factors intervening in generation of disease. Entire sequence of events and development from first pathological events, to resolution of disease or death. The term natural" refers to process in the absence of intervention. Stage of subclinical disease from exposure to onset of disease = incubation period. Miners who develop disease of the respiratory system due to long exposure to chemicals in mines. Even for a single disease, incubation period has a range.
