Looks in depth, non-numerical data (analyzes words, images and artifacts) Qualitative research generally deals in words, images and subjective. Each has value and makes an important contribution to health research. Important to understand the strengths and limitations of each. Positivism: factual work, to unearth and find facts - one single truth. Post-positivism: we acknowledge that the information we have is the best we have, but we are open to more information. Constructivism: multiple realities, no singular truth, things are experienced differently for everyone. Critical theory: interested in studying and unearthing oppression that"s happening; politics and power play a role, and you are working against it. Marxism would be a paradigm that would influence your methodology, but isn"t a methodology on its own.
