People are from different cultures whenever the degree of difference between them is sufficiently large and important that it creates dissimilar interpretations and expectations about what are regarded as competent communication behaviours. Intercultural communication occurs when large and important cultural differences create dissimilar interpretations and expectations about how to communicate competently. Most academic communication among scholars in the university is in written form. In most disciplines, almost all of your assessment is in written form ie essays, tests, exams, analyses, etc. Both require that the write not only report what has been found/looked at, but that they say something significant about it. Academic writing & teaching/learnig are both culturally determined. Written assingments will comprise a chain of four interralted types of writing: Intro to first assignment: to have you articulate a reason for choosing one of the three (cid:498)themes(cid:499) consideration should be given to selection to ensure the (cid:494)right fit(cid:495)
