Theories of class stratification
1. Karl Marx
Two main classes in capitalism: bourgeoisie(rich) and proletariat(poor)
Objective: where individuals stand within the economic structure of society and the power
structure of a social formation
Subjective: the role class consciousness plays in the constitution of a class
2. Max Weber
- The use of the term community to locate the bases and exercise of power
- The view that classes were more fragmented than Marx suggested

3. Anthony Giddens (1938)
