Document Summary

Wanting to improve the motor output to achieve more flexible locomotion patterns. Situation 1- intact situation- locus can maintain wingbeat frequency. Situation 2- deafferented- locus cannot maintain the rhythmical movement for as long, and frequency decreases. Therefore you need sensory feedback to generate and maintain rhythmical movements inititated by cpgs. Put infants on a treadmill and they can demonstrate a walking type of behavior. Infants are good to study bc their corticospinal tract isn"t fully developed. Were able to adjust walking pattern by increasing or decreasing the load (being sensed by the foot) and altering the hip position manipulating the sensory info the child is receiving and seeing how loco pattern is altered. In normal conditions the infant"s walking pattern seemed to burst and relax in activation. When manipulated the infant had trouble walking normally this tells us that the cpg is relying on sensory sources of info to fine tune activity.
