Speaking- 10% to inhale, 90% exhale when speaking: exhale- use abdominal muscles to extend uterance. 3 unpaired carilages: cricoid carilage, thyroid carilage, epiglois- folds down on top of airway when swallow. 3 paried carilages: arytenoid carilages (vocal ligaments atach here, corniculate carilages, cuneiform carilages. Larynx thyroid prominence= adam"s apple above larynx- hyoid bone. 40% longer than female: vocal folds are 60% longer in male. Epiglois anterior surface atached to root of tongue: median and lateral glossoepigloic ligaments valleculae (2 valleys or pits, between epiglois and root of tongue, on either side of median glossoepiglois fold.
