Vocal folds in charge of talking and childbirth, urination, defecation (abdominal pressure) Vocal folds connect from thyroid cartilage to arytenoid cartilage makes a triangle. Arytenoid cartilages rotate and can move forwards and backwards. Typically stops, fricatives and affricates (some languages include liquids, nasals, and (burmese; japanese) Breathy voice (hindi) (creeper voice); glottis doesn"t have to be open. Creaky voice (vocal/glottal fry) (arytenoid are tightly closed; but more control where the v. f. are not really tightly together but more slacking so you could see them vibrating) old people, smokers. Falsetto (v. f. held very tightly together only allows vibration at edges of v. f. , not considered a linguistic feature more sociolinguistic)
