Neuropsychology: looking at patient populations (individuals who have suffered some kind of brain damage that results in a neurolinguistic deficit) and testing them. Investigations of correlations between patterns of language impairment and loci of brain damage. Can study them now because of advanced technology; can pick your population. Does not tell us about how language is processed in real time (everything that is happening without conscious awareness)- neuro imagining can tell us this real time. We need to know how an unimpaired brain works if you want to fix it when it"s broken; also need to know who came up with this. We combine lesions tudies with functional neuroimaging of the brain. Temporal resolution: the accuracy with which one can measure when an event (ex. a physiological change) occurs. Spatial resolution: the accuracy with which one can measure where an event is occurring.
