Use two study guides, then third study guide. First part - the world isn"t naturally divided into categories, but has a jumble of phenomena, and we try to organize it using language. Ex: diff forms of precipitation, to organize it, we give them different labels (rain, snow, etc) Second part how we group and label determined how we think about them (language influences thoughts, perceptions, behaviours, reasoning, and our memory called linguistic determinism ) Differences between languages lead to different ways of thinking language result of labelling differently, those groups will think differently from each other (linguistic relativity) Compared vocab of inuit and english speakers; inuit has many words for snow, english ahs few; 2 groups view world of snow differently.
