Many stoics also had mentors they would ask for help from wiser folks then themselves: paying attention on what we think as selves. Coveting is especially dangerous because it is kind of desiring that results in stultus (stupidity) For the stoics, stupidity is not a cognitive measurement but a false measurement of value one places value on things that are not only impermanent but cause great suffering. Stultita is often described as wavelike it is a kind of stupidity that is constantly washing over one. We are bombarded by people who are attempting to get us to value things that are ultimately harmful. Marcus aurelius writes be like the rock headland on which the waves constantly break, it stands firm, and around it the seething waters are laid to rest .
