Sex is an either-or phenomenon: either appealing or appalling and nowhere in between. Occurs on social level - some groups like it and others hate it. Society as whole may embrace or repress it at certain historical periods. Sex is interpreted negatively because of its connection with dirt. Obscene comes from latin obscenus which means from filth or obscaena meaning off stage (was not fit to be seen on stage) People associate sex with filth because sex organs are near excretory organs. Dirt offends against order so those who call sex dirty imply it goes against their conception of order. The word vice goes along and it means fault, imperfection etc (fault/imperfection in an order) Formal logic is logic of cognitive systems and psychologic is logic of affective systems (emotions etc) Sartre says everything that exist overflows boundaries man tries to locate it in and humans react to this with nausea.
