PHIL 2P99 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Slut, Women Grow, Robert Stoller
Document Summary
Dismisses traditional moral arguments for censoring porn because she disagrees. Aka she disagrees that sex is an evil to be controlled. She believes it is wrong to exploit human beings, especially women and other susceptible people (like children??) So if porn degrades humans then even if she doesn"t want it censored, she will still not think it isn"t harmful. She defines porn as explicit sexual materials intended to arouse the reader or viewer sexually. What she is interested in is not whether porn should be censored but how one can object to it on moral grounds. Obviously exploiting people would make porn objectionable and she focuses only on content in the discussion of degradation. She wants to determine whether porn shows and commends behaviour that degrade people. For example if a porn conveys that raping women is acceptable. But such objectionable material is not just in porn, it is in non porn books, movies etc.
