Document Summary

Anatomical position is a frame of reference for anatomical description and dissection. To avoid confusion of relative position of body parts. There are 3 planes: transverse plane separates top a(cid:374)d (cid:271)otto(cid:373) (cid:894)(cid:449)e say: (cid:862)sli(cid:272)e alo(cid:374)g tra(cid:374)s(cid:448)erse pla(cid:374)e(cid:863)(cid:895, frontal plane separates front and back, sagittal plane separates left and right. If it sli(cid:272)es right i(cid:374) the (cid:373)iddle of your (cid:271)ody, it"s (cid:272)alled the midsagittal plane. Directional terms are used to describe position of one structure relative to another. Superior: towards the head; upper; above: ex: my knee is superior to my ankle. Inferior: away from head; lower; below: ex: my ankle is inferior to my knee. Proximal: nearer trunk or point of origin; closer to shoulder: used for limbs, ex: my elbow is proximal to my fingers.
