KINE 1P90 Lecture 7: KINE 1P90 lecture 7 winter 2016
Document Summary
Other characteristics of muscle bre types: the motor input to the muscle bre, slow twitch bres are innervated by alpha 2 neurons. Low activation threshold= activated at low work intensities: fast twitch bres are innervated by large alpha 1 neurons. High activation threshold= activated at high work intensities: the kind (isoform) of atp enzyme on the myosin heads, slow twitch bres have the slow form of myosin atpase. Slow twitch are oxidative, have smaller diameter, more mitochondria: fast twitch bres have the fast form of myosin atpase. Hybrid bres help ll in the gaps . Most bres express a single myosin isoform. These are known as pure bres: fast and slow. We also have hybrid bres; these express multiple myosin isoforms. Will adapt to the needs and demands. Based on need for muscle force and power. Type i and type iia recruited rst (up to 50% mvc) (maximum voluntary contraction) At 100% mvc, all available motor units recruited.
