Topics should appear as a collection and should be observable and somehow measureable. A single case study of an important case-may also be worthy. Turn a broad topic into a more narrow, manageable (cid:498)research question(cid:499) Topic should be narrowed to a specific question that we can provide some insight. Why waste our time answering a question that already has a clear answer. Familiarize yourself with existing literature on that topic. Lit review-summary of leading and recent studies on the topic. Should include the methods used and the summaries of what was found goal 1:demonstrate familiarity. Informs the reader that the researcher has some knowledge in the area. Helps to establish credibility goal2: link to prior research. The directions of past research should be outlined- what have others said, what is the (cid:494)status quo(cid:495) in this area. Goal4:learn from the past and prepare for the future. Wbat resources do we have at our disposal.
