Document Summary
Motivation: psychological feature that arouses an organism to action (drives, needs, goals) The (cid:396)easo(cid:374) fo(cid:396) the a(cid:272)tio(cid:374) (cid:894)(cid:449)hat (cid:373)oti(cid:448)ated hi(cid:373)/he(cid:396) to do (cid:895) Involves initiation (what made you start the behaviour), intensity (full till vs. half ass), and persistence (what keeps you going) of behaviour: ex. A girl is studying and gets hungry; she decides to get food (initiating by bodily need). Her search was sustained because her actions were directed by possible food sources. Biological motives: based on biological needs that must be met for ones survival: they maintain homeostasis (standing steady/steady state) Learned motives: based on learned needs, drives and goals. Incentive value: the (cid:862)pull(cid:863) of a goal- the goals appeal beyond its ability to fill a need. Stimulus motives: express our need to for simulation/info. Hypothalamus: small area in the base of the brain that regulates hunger, sex drive, and thirst.
