PSYC 2P36 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Axon Hillock, Bird Vocalization, Purkinje Cell
Document Summary
Brain and behaviour is the study of physiological, developmental, evoluionary and funcional explanaions of behaviour and experience -> with emphasis on the study of areas and sub-areas of the brain. Physiological: relates a behaviour to the acivity of the brain and other organs. o o. Sandpipers bird song - increased levels of testosterone levels cause an area of the brain to increase in size and is enlarged in breeding males. In contrast, you could look at non-breeding males, or interrupt the testosterone. Ontogeneic: escribes the development of the structure or behaviour, focuses on the genes that prepare for a behaviour, and the early experience during sensiive/developmental periods o o o. Epigeneics: chromosomes change because of experience - it can even alter the geneic code and be passed down to ofspring. To produce the appropriate song, the bird has the genes to sing and then must hear the "appropriate" song during a paricular point/sensiive period in development.
