Some say you can"t really observe an animal"s consciousness. Both learning and memory studies involve: acquisiion. Learning: acquisiion phase: memory: retenion and retrieval phases. Episodic memory: doesn"t stay quite as well, memory of speciic events. Peopled don"t remember the event itself but remembered the last ime you remembered it. Rat had to remember which area was lit up, then when was released and had to go to that area: working memory informaion is used for the duraion of a task. Someone gives you their phone number and you have to remember it to dial: working on a math problem and keep the numbers straight in your head. Reference memory long-term retenion needed for the successful use of incoming and recently acquired informaion: working memory: remembering which area was lit up. Reference memory- knowing that the area that is lit up = food. And they should you three images and you have to say which ones you saw.
