Document Summary

Biology and psychology simply offer different levels of analysis. Biologist would wonder how as a species there is an adaptive. Psychologist: how individuals and mechanisms are involved value. Evolution= process of change in gene frequencies (how much of the population has this trait) over many generations. Natural selection: proposed by darwin (1859, example: the peacock"s tail feathers, initially they did not have these feathers, but over generations the females were attracted to the males colorful feathers. The moths land on birch trees, (the white peppered moth can camouflage more on the trees). The industrial revolution created pollution which changed the birch trees to a dark color, so now the black peppered moth would be able to blend in more into the trees (adaptive traits) The white moths did not actually turn into the black ones, the gene frequencies changed over generations. Environment acts to select hereditary traits that are adaptive. Changes occur to the species over generations.
