Document Summary

Ethical challenges occur often; esp. in practice (ex. , family therapy, social work, etc. ) Decisions can have proud consequences for clients, society, etc. , Even as a researcher, your decisions can have consequences for everybody involved. * obvious professional duties; clear outlines and directives. Decision must withstand scrutiny from colleagues, society, legal system. * no applicable profession directive esp. in therapy field. Four ethical systems somewhat mutually exclusive: consequence. Ignores means by which outcome was obtained. Best measure is probably more explicit/direct: duty. Was your decision in accordance w/ larger, universal ethical principles: motivation. Reasons to carry out certain decisions, make certain choices. Having the right motive behind decision/course of action. Not necessarily concerned w/ outcome or adherence to duty. Has to do w/ character, view of self: relationships. Need to apply rules of ethics to become truly ethical tends to be emotional early on in career, most decisions will be experiential.
