55 views7 pages

Document Summary

Canada is one of the largest producers in the world of agriculture products, on an industrial scale. 5 largest sectors are grains, oilseeds, livestock, dairy, horticulture, poultry, and eggs canada has the climate to support production of these resources potential for climate change to expose farmable land farther north as the permafrost melts. 5% of grain farms are reported as organic. Loss of prime farmland results in the decrease of variety of crops being grown. Over time, the higher demand and repeated farming of the same crops prevents the soil from having time to replenish its nutrients. This degradation of the soil has caused a loss of domesticated varieties, whether because there are not desirable by consumers or have a larger yield. With a goal of improving yields, pesticides and herbicides are used, but are also detrimental to the quality of the soil.
