In canada anyone who considers themselves something other than white or native, is classified as a visible minority. Arabic people - counted as white in us census; in canada they are counted as a visible minority. Whites are the standard against which everyone else stands out, why are they a visible minority. Should have a sense that social inequality is premised on social stratification (system of ranking - hierarchy), based on ideas of difference (gender, minority status race , class, and all other social inequities and privileges). Keep in mind someone made this put, it"s not based on reasoning (this group is superior while this one is inferior; assignment perpetuates the blocking of access to resources such as money, power, education). Race is more stratified in other parts of the world compared to canada but it still very much exists.
