SOCI 2P90 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Sex Segregation, G1 Phase, Visible Minority
Document Summary
The wage gap is the difference in earning between women & men measured by a ratio that compares average earnings for women & men who have worked full-time for a full- year. Sometimes also measured on the basis of hourly wages. Almost 60% of canadian women are in the paid labour force. Women work for the same reasons men work . They are responsible for the financial well-being of themselves, their children & other family members. Three government policies to help level the playing (or paying) field: pay equity. Refers to the policy of paying all individuals who do the exact same job, the exact same wage regardless of sex, age, race, marital status etc. This is also called equal pay for work of equal value . Pay equity allows comparison of wages between jobs mostly done by women & jobs mostly done by men.
