As student: a) experience refined age hierarchies, (recent innovation) Institutionalized movement through hierarchies, power and status linked to personal advances -- hurdles interwoven with gender, race, ability, class inequalities. Life-long hurdles - life long education- continuous adaptation to changing labour market. Premised on individualism: learn to navigate a complexly formal hierarchical institution- power at top (principal, vice-principal, teachers, administrative assistants, cleaning staff) -informal hierarchical structure on playground -gender, age, social class, cliques.
