Mother person who raised us (social status) Turban people associate turbans with terrorism, sikhism. Culture is important because it orients us to our social environment. Cultural objects have meaning beyond their material reality (ex. Tattoos are ink underneath your skin but each tattoo holds a different meaning to each beholder. Behaviors take on particular meanings in particular social contexts. Cultural sociology analyses these systems of meaning. Acts on its own, separate from society. Institutions rely on each other to meet needs. *family is an institution family first then education*
