Document Summary

Some from seminar, some from lecture, some both. Social debate and 4 dominate political approaches of what pornography is and its effects. Early research on porn and the effects it has on society. Debates began in the 1970"s because this is when feminists grasped onto the notion that porn was a problem. Then porn comes on the scene as a sight of concern. Possible exam question: what are the 4 approaches to porn. Most potent symbol of men"s violence against women; this is new this strong association that makes porn the most contested moral issue of our time. Its largely because of the association this is not just a moral or politically contested issue, because of this contested nature we see the social regulation and the construction of sexuality involving the state. Ex: in canada we have laws that regulate porn and frustrate the distribution.
