At the risk of sounding self indulgent, this is how i started my book on boys and men: 1966 movie, the good, the bad and the ugly aptly describes how men and boys sometimes behave, how we are perceived, and are represented. Neo-freudian, abnormal psychology, psychopaths, psychotics all tend to focus on individual personality and behaviour. 2 sociobiology/evolutionary psychology emphasis on inborn general patterns of male behaviour often emphasizing aggression and violence: variety of biological based explanations (hormones brian structure, sex role theory [cultural scripts, under- socialized (lack of social bonds) , But as a sociologist i don"t find these efforts compelling nor supported by consistent evidence. Unpack some core concepts: sex, gender as social practice, masculinity, hegemonic patriarchal masculinity, patriarchal dividend, protecting the dividend, patriarchy & capitalism elective affinity.
