Document Summary

Male economic patterns receive attention in traditional economic texts. Textbook claims that women behaviour and their problems, in terms of the economy, are different to that of men. Women play an increasing important role in the economy as workers and consumers. Women spend more time in non-market activities: non-market activities: unpaid work that contributes to the well-being of individuals, families and society in general. Much attention is given to the first women in a given field. This tends to obscure the continued responsibility of most women for the bulk of non- market work and the large occupational differences between men and women that persist. Approach is neoclassical or mainstream as well as presenting other existing analyses: neoclassical economies: the study of the allocation of resources; the study that considers human behaviours as a relation between scarce means and alternative ends. Neoclassical economics believes that free markets usually result in an efficient allocation of resources.
