Everyone is orientated in space, but the ways we understand that (and what we with/in it) are shaped by cultural ideas and social institutions. Physical layout- compact and meant to fit a certain amount of people, allows for traffic to get on/off and to seats, cramped but seats face each other which offers communication opportunities. What this all communicates- we"re becoming more antisocial, life is speading up, fear of talking for looking weird, train is an empty vessel that is filled with culture/people. Space- the dimensions of height, depth and width within which all things exist and move. Geography- the nature and relative arrangement of places and physical features. The front of the house is completely closed off, separating public street from privacy of home. Homes are organized with different public and private spaces. Large front room behind front door for greeting guests and entertaining visitors- family doesn"t usually spend time together in front room.
