Document Summary

Anthropology: the study of the human, past and present. All aspects of human experience, society and culture. Culture: a learned way of thinking, feeling, believing, and acting handed down from one"s predecessors and remade in relation to present understandings and concerns. Culture provides orientation in the world by: helping us become comfortable by allowing us to understand how to interact and be comfortable in that setting. Providing a sense of values and what"s important in life- what you should strive for and helping us evaluate social norms and moral precepts (implicit understanding of what is good or bad socially). Different spaces give different attitudes with work, family, neighbours, etc. and time and daily structure (e. g. urban vs. rural). Culture shock- disorientation one feels when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life or social setting. May be experienced alongside feeling overwhelmed, confused, homesick or disengaged.
