Some type of disruption: sociocultural disruption in the society. In some culture, it is a punishment by the gods for sinful act. Interpret disease into something meaningful: controlling the disease, disease = biology (how it express itself through the body): material of the condition. Biomedicine conceptualizes disease as a concrete entity: under this view, diseases are distinct, discrete and disjunctive entities that exist separate from other diseases and from the social groups and socials context in which they are found. They don"t live outside society and culture. Social and cultural are deeply related in the formation of disease. 4 perceptive: ecological/evolutionary model, critical medical anthropology, interpretive model, critical-interpretive model. Interested in social and cultural detail only as steps towards a universal explanation for what leads to a specific health problem. Focus on identifying the source of the disease, how it is transmitted, and how to control it. Accounts analyze morbidity, mortality, incidence and prevalence.
