Use of draperies to create sense of movement becomes common in hellenistic period. Human body seen by the greeks as perfection man was the measure of all things. Detail of the procession from the ionic frieze on the east side of the parthenon: 447-432 bce. Subject = great panathenaic procession held every 4 years (in honor of athena) The women of the city carried a new wool peplos to the acropolis sanctuary to clothe an ancient wooden cult statue of athena. Frieze embodies notion of an orderly society.
