Document Summary

Archeology: the study of the past through the surviving material evidence, recording and dating evidence gained through excavations. It deals with fragments, things are not found in complete forms. When it comes to medieval architecture, we have little to work with. Archaeology is very useful in understanding it, for that reason. You look at a fragment and try to conclude what existed beforehand. By going through the romanesque fabric in the building, we will draw possible features which disappeared from the romanesque choir. Step two: dig excavate, look at foundations of old romanesque choir. Look at the remnants left above ground to bring in all your information. You draw out the plan (make a measured drawing), according to your ndings. You have to try your best to draw logical conclusions, which make good sense; You could have a oor-level nave-choir, you just raise the choir.
