Document Summary
Science is a way of understanding natural world based on observable and measurable evidence. Data would be based on a phenomenon, comes from observation, experiments , modelling. Types of data are qualitative (observation. , notes, photographs) vs quantitative (graphically and statistically). Theory: explanation based on first principles or from a body of measurable evidence. It is sometimes wrongfully used in everyday speak as a synonym of hypothesis or speculation. Theory are subject to modification or replacement as new evidences are gathered. 3 important qualities od scientific theory: 1. Ask a question - make a hypothesis that answers the question (cause and effect form). Make a testable prediction. collect data and analysis/interpretation (2 outcomes: results support the hypothesis or the results don"t support the hypothesis) if the results don"t support it then have to revise the hypothesis. If the results do support it then more testing to generalize it.
