Document Summary

Homeotic mutation: are mutations that change a body part for another body part. Homeotic genes: determine basic features as where wings and legs will develop on birds. Developmental genes: boss other genes around (are like the architects), control rate time and spatial patter(cid:374) of (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ges i(cid:374) orga(cid:374)is(cid:373)"s for(cid:373) as it (cid:271)e(cid:272)o(cid:373)es a(cid:374) adult. Heterochrony: evolutionary change in rate or timing of developmental events. Rate: parts such as jaw develop faster than other parts. Timing: paedomorphosis is the retention of juvenile morphosis in adults. Hox genes are a type of homeotic genes (ability to build body part). Any changes in developmental genes can result in new morphological forms. Changes in morphology can result from changes in regulation of developmental genes rather than changes in sequence of developmental genes. Gene sequence remains same, but regulation of gene expression is different in 2 groups of fish. An example: fly ubx in arternia (shrimp) what will happen is 1008 limb development suppression.
